The 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche Arrives In The Middle East

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

According to a Press Release form Chevrolet, the world-renowned automaker is carving out a real reputation for providing buyers with exciting and reliable vehicles in every size and shape imaginable. The new 2008 Avalanche arrives in the Middle East in mid October as a welcome addition to further strengthen Chevrolet’s portfolio.

Aimed at pleasure-seeking drivers who want more from their vehicle than just comfortable commuting between the office and home, emphasis for the Avalanche is placed on getting much more: more from your life, more from your car and more for your money. The 2008 Avalanche is an appealing option for customers looking for maximum flexibility in their vehicle.

The Avalanche brings the best of two separate worlds. The powerful SUV not just provides more comfort, interior appointments, roominess, smoothness and quietness, but at the same time with up to a maximum 2.5 metres of cargo length in the open tray and a mighty 5.3-litre V8 engine, the Avalanche is also a true-blue pick up.

Based on GM’s full-size GMT900 truck platform, which also serves Chevrolet’s class-leading Tahoe and Suburban, the 2008 Avalanche is available in LS, LT and LTZ models and comes with a powerful, streamlined look, particularly with the steeply raked windscreen.

The front end features Chevrolet’s signature body-coloured bar and golden bow-tie logo. Large, aerodynamic headlights have bright metallic reflectors which gives the Avalanche its aggressive styling. A wide track gives the 2008 Avalanche a poised balance, especially with the 17-, 18- or 20-inch tyres that fill the wheel housings.

The 2008 Avalanche’s interior is one of the best ever to have come out of the Chevrolet stable, in terms of materials, comfort, visibility and build. The pick up offers an expansive feel with an instrument panel that sits low and curves away from the driver and passenger. Premium materials and a new low-gloss finish give the interior a rich, high-quality look and feel, while the exceptional interior build means that instrument panel gaps have been reduced significantly.

The 2008 Avalanche also offers a host of convenience features, including Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist and remote vehicle starting. For the driver’s relief from everyday traffic, the Avalanche has a CD/MP3-compatible radio, DVD entertainment system that includes an 8-inch screen. Passengers can derive comfort from firm seats with bigger bolsters, and the driver’s seat is available with six-way power adjustment.

The pick up arrives in the Middle East with vibrant exterior colour options: Blue Granite Metallic, Deep Ruby Metallic, Gray Stone Metallic, Dark blue Metallic, Summit White, Gold Mist Metallic, Sun Burst Orange II, Silver Birch Metallic, and Victory Red Metallic.

For long haul journeys or a trip to the beach, the rear seat enables easy access to the Midgate system. The seat folds flat, allowing longer items to be carried between the cargo bed and into the rear passenger compartment. Storage compartments alongside the cargo box provide ample and lockable space, and they also have drains so they can be filled with ice and used as coolers.

The 2008 Avalanche is a vehicle for the sheer pleasure of driving, and the 5.3-litre V8 Vortec engine provides all the power a full-size pick-up buyer demands. The unit delivers a lusty 355 bhp at 5,400 rpm, while 505 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm gives it some real pulling power, without sacrificing its class-leading fuel efficiency.

These days, the name Chevrolet has become synonymous with vehicles that are as fun as they are well engineered, and much of this reputation is down to the Avalanche, an SUV that brings owners so much more.

Spy Photos of 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

New spy pictures of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse has been taken in Death Valley, California.

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse is a new midsize crossover that will be available at different Chevy dealers next fall.

From the looks of it, the Chevrolet Traverse is essentially the same crossover under the skin as the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. The only significant change is some revamped sheet metal, which blends the existing bodywork with some styling elements from the new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.

It also appears as though the Traverse will get a chevron-shaped grille similar to the Malibu. A large chrome bar splits through the middle and big, gold Chevy bowtie sitting front and center is expected. The headlights are also expected to look similar to those used on the GMC Acadia, with a few unique details thrown in to make the Traverse more easily identifiable.

According to an expert, GM did a good job of differentiating the cabins of the first three crossovers, but there’s only so much that can be done the fourth time around, so drastically different setup inside the Traverse should not be expected. However, this should not be considered as a bad thing since the Buick, GMC and Saturn versions are all well laid out, with good, solid controls. Same goes for the drivetrain, as the Traverse will get a 3.6-liter V6 and six-speed automatic just like the others. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions will be offered, too.

The final production version of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse will probably be showcased at the Los Angeles auto show in November, if not the Detroit auto show in January.

Chevrolet Shines At The 2007 AltWheels-Alternative Transportation & Energy Festival

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

The 2007 AltWheels-Alternative Transportation & Energy Festival offers every reason for car enthusiasts and environmentalists. This year, there will be an array of environmentally friendly Chevrolets-some of which can run on a blend of ethanol distilled from corn or other renewable biomass.

A first-time sponsor of AltWheels, Chevrolet will present a dynamic display that will include hybrids and technology that allows current models to reach EPA highway estimates of 30 mpg or better. Other models present at the festival will run on any combination of gasoline and E85, so named because it is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Visitors can also peer into the near future, in which, fuel cells turn hydrogen into electricity to propel Chevrolet Equinox SUVs.

John Konkel, Chevrolet Regional Divisional Marketing Manager for GM’s NorthEast region says, “Chevrolet is focused on offering consumers fuel efficiency with a choice. Chevy has, and continues to bring a number of fuel solutions to market, and we look forward to sharing a number of these at AltWheels-Alternative Transportation & Energy Festival.”

For 2007, Chevy offers eight models with 30 mpg highway or better, including the Cobalt, HHR and Aveo which will be on display at Alternative Transportation & Energy Festival.

Visitors to the Chevy display can also enjoy freshly popped corn, talk to specialists, pick up literature on its many gas-friendly and gas-free transportation options, climb in and out of vehicles and pick up a free gift. The popcorn machine celebrates the presence of a Chevy Impala and Avalanche, two vehicles that can run on either gasoline or E85. E85 is a cleaner-burning, mostly renewable fuel source made from U.S.-grown biomaterial. It helps reduce greenhouse gases and can enhance the nation’s economy and energy independence.

Those visiting AltWheels-Alternative Transportation & Energy Festival can also catch a first glimpse of America’s first full-size hybrid SUV – the 2008 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid. Available in two- or four-wheel drive, it provides the power and capability one expects from a utility vehicle while also delivering surprising fuel efficiency in both highway and city driving.

Chevy’s other “first look” opportunities at the festival include the 2008 Malibu Hybrid. This first-ever Chevy Malibu Hybrid will deliver an EPA rating of 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Beginning production in October, the Malibu Hybrid offer customers an affordable hybrid choice packaged in a refined, midsize sedan.

“Chevrolet is committed to bringing the public driveable and practical vehicles that decrease our energy dependence and reduce our emissions,” said Konkel.

The Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell is a real-world vehicle: It is one of the first of a fleet of more than 100 that will be driven by real drivers during a two-year pilot that begins this autumn. It is yet another stop in the electrification of the automobile; instead of batteries, electricity is created by fuel cells, and it emits only water vapor.

The Chevrolet Groove

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

The Chevrolet Groove is said to be inspired by a “half-soldier, half-modern” military helmet. Even though it may seem modern and funky, it still exudes the classic Chevrolet heritage design cues like an upright windshield and prominent fender flares that give the Groove a strong and muscular stance.

It has been reported earlier that the Chevrolet Groove lead exterior designer Jawook Koo, of the GM Design Center in Incheon, South Korea, was seeking a Mini design that was big on presence.

According to Koo, he wanted to get out of the Mini vehicles stereotype that is characterized by a weak, insecure and ‘cute’ appearance, so that consumers feel safe just by looking at the vehicle.

Indeed, the Groove’s design displays utmost strength. The striking matte Lunar Quartz exterior finish contrasts with the strategically placed satin silver exterior chrome details.

Big, five-spoke 17-inch wheels pushed all the way to the rear give the impression of a vehicle that’s much larger than it is, thanks to the short but pronounced hood and the long, flat cabin — a design that provides for a roomy interior. Contrasting Vertigo-colored brake calipers bring additional attention to the big wheels. The front overhang includes open-air vents that are integrated into the front LED fog lamps, and the elongated front headlamps further “lengthen” the vehicle. This front-wheel-drive concept is powered by a very fuel-efficient, 1.0-liter diesel engine.

Europe Makes Way For The Camaro Convertible Concept

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

“If this Camaro convertible doesn’t make your heart beat faster, you should see either your optometrist or your cardiologist, because you have a problem”- this is the very teasing statement of Ed Peper, General Manager Chevrolet USA, about the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible.

The Chevrolet Camaro and the Camaro convertible will be offered in the US market in 2009. According to Wayne Brannon, Executive Director of Chevrolet Europe, “The muscle cars of the 60s and 70s are very popular also on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. The contemporary interpretation in form of the new Camaro would thus be an enrichment for the European product line-up as well. The Camaro has always been an affordable sports car, attainable for just about anyone. That’s why it fits perfectly into the product portfolio of a value brand.“

The Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept (length/width/height: 4,730/2,022/1,344 millimeters) gets its power form a high-torque V-8 engine that drives the rear wheels via a manual transmission. The four-seater also features an independent wheel suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels. The Camaro convertible concept feature a design that includes classic long hood/short deck proportions and a wide, wheels-at-the-corners stance that gives the vehicle the look of hugging corners even when stationary.

Additional design details include:

a.) Tonneau cover over the folded top

b.) “Halo” headlamps

c.) LED rear lights

d.) Rear spoiler with LED-lit CHMSL

e.) Racing-inspired fuel filler door

f.) Front-inlet hood scoop, inspired by the Corvette Z06

g.) Rear fender “gills”, inspired by the classic Camaros

The Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept’s Hugger Orange pearl tri-coat color is a contemporary update of the classic hue, which was originally offered in 1969. It is complemented with twin gunmetal gray sport stripes. The modern interpretation of the classic color and its dark accent stripes simultaneously reflect the Camaro’s heritage and deliver a deep, lustrous and thoroughly contemporary appearance. The Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept rides on 21-inch front wheels and 22-inch rear wheels. The wheels have a deep-dish, five-spoke design and feature charcoal center sections with bright outer edges and an orange outline on the wheel edge.
