Chevrolet UK sponsors the 2008 Edinburgh Marathon

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

It is normal for companies such as the Chevrolet to sponsor events. This simply goes to show that auto manufacturers also care for things other than cars. Recently, the Edinburgh Marathon has given statement announcing its new major sponsors for their event next year. Among the sponsors is Chevrolet. Last year, the company was able to be involved with a smaller scale race. This move of Chevrolet will take a step further with the company’s sponsoring of yet another event. This time around, Chevy joins a large team of sponsors. Yes, a team of sponsors to hand in hand make the event possible.

The Chevrolet will back the Hairy Haggis Team Relay. In this course, participants will be able to run a portion of the entire course and pass on the task to their teammate the task to continue the race. The course is supposed to be ideal for team building as the course entails that each team member’s performance will affect the outcome of the race. If the team members are efficient, their team will be able to finish the race early. However, if one of the members will accidentally slip or is a slow runner, this will consequently, delay the other team members from being able to continue with the rest of the course.

According to Richard Chamberlain, who is the national retail marketing manager for Chevrolet in the United Kingdom, “We are very pleased to be contributing once again to the Edinburgh Marathon after the great success of the event in 2007.” He further adds that “a number of our marketing managers were involved in the Hairy Haggis Team Relay in 2007 and wanted to give others the opportunity to have as much fun competing as they did.” As was earlier mentioned, the Hairy Haggis Team Relay is a good course to see the value of team work. The people in Chevrolet simply want to share their experience of the relay in the hopes that this will also improve on the team spirit of other groups of people.

As for Damien O’Looney, the marketing manager for the marathon, he believes that “To have Chevrolet United Kingdom increase their commitment by sponsoring the marathon and team relay shows we are continuing to grow in popularity.”

The other sponsors of the Edinburgh Marathon include the Strathmore Spring Water as well as the Real Radio. The said event will take place on May 25, 2008.

2009 Chevy Silverado Hybrid Truck

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

At the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, Chevrolet launched the 2009 Silverado Hybrid truck. The said vehicle is an answer to the call for more environment-friendly vehicles. The Silverado features a two mode hybrid system. It has a transmission has the capacity to gear its ratios in a number of ways. One can even opt to operate the Silverado as a conventional transmission for trucks (meaning four fixed gears) does. The 2009 Chevy Silverado Hybrid will be available as a Crew Cab and future buyers have a choice between having a 2WD or a 4WD configuration.

As a green vehicle, it is geared with a 6-liter V8 engine that is equipped with Active Fuel Management as well as late-intake valve closing technology. What makes the 2009 Chevy Silverado Hybrid special is that it is capable of running an all-electric drive for up to 20 miles per hour. For the two wheel drive, it has towing capacity of 6,100 pounds.

It makes use of General Motor’s two mode hybrid system which comprises of the Electronic Variable Transmission (EVT) and the Hybrid Optimizing System (HOS). The EVT allows for variable gearing and works o automatically change the mode of the vehicle and make it act like a conventional tranny with only four fixed gear ratios when driving low-load driving. If the situation calls for it, however, the Silverado hybrid has enough to provide the vehicle with the amount of power it needs. As for the HOS, it works to constantly send information to the EVT. In so doing, optimum transmission operations are not that far behind. The 2009 Chevy Silverado Hybrid is expected to be available to dealers before the year 2008 ends.

Slip Control Boost System For Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon

Monday, November 12th, 2007

The Chevrolet Tahoe and the GMC Yukon are set to get equipped with new high performance brakes. TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. is introducing its Slip Control Boost (SCB) advanced regenerative-compatible braking system with the goal of providing the two vehicles with full Stabilitrak functionality.

Peter Lake, executive vice president, Sales and Business Development for TRW Automotive says, “TRW is pleased to have worked closely with the engineering teams at General Motors to develop a product that complements the Tahoe’s and Yukon’s regenerative braking system to help accomplish the dual goals of providing enhanced safety and improved fuel economy.”

The Slip Control Boost System is now a standard part of the regenerative braking system of the Chevrolet Tahoe. The said system is reported to deliver high braking and stability control performance within a 12-volt system.

Instead of ordinary and traditional brake components like boosters, master cylinders and vacuum pumps, the Slip Control Boost System makes use of an electro-hydraulic control unit (EHCU) and brake pedal simulator unit with a twin master cylinder to supply brake pressure. By using these advanced components, the Slip Control Boost System can deliver an enhanced packaging and appearance in the front dash area, a brake pedal that can be integrated to emergency braking systems and NHV characteristics that are considered to be at the top of their class.
