Chevy Catalytic Converter
Superior Quality Auto Part for your Chevy’s Better Performance and Environment-friendly Ride
What exactly is the role of a Chevy Catalytic Converter and how does it carry out its purpose. Generally, catalytic converters are used
to clean the gas that passes through the vehicle's exhaust system. As we go on
with time more and more cars are produced and used leading to increased pollution
and health hazards but good thing catalytic converters are also discovered and
used. Catalytic Converters are anti pollution auto devices that can help a lot
to eliminate the negative effects produced by car emissions.
In Unites States, studies show that in the last eleven years, 130 million catalytic
converters helped a lot to eliminate the pollutants from the vehicle's exhaust
which can cover up the country with almost more than 500 feet of toxic carbon
monoxide. Carbon monoxide or Co is a harmful gas produced from incomplete burning
of fuel emitted in the car's exhaust streams. Cars are the biggest producer of
carbon monoxide present in the atmosphere. The role of car catalytic converter
is to convert harmful gas like carbon monoxide into a harmless gas that will not
pose a threat in the environment. Other harmful gases produced by vehicles include
Hydrocarbons, Nitrogen Oxides and Carbon Dioxide.
Another set of studies conducted for years between 1975 and 1996 reported that
this new emission control technology cleared the air of estimated 195 million
tons of carbon monoxide; nearly 42 million tons of hydrocarbons and about 37 million
tons of nitrogen oxides. The carbon monoxide, at standard pressure and temperature
(one atmosphere at 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and 100 parts per million concentrations,
which is obviously on the toxic level, could stack a dangerous 512 feet high toxic
blanket over the 50 states.

Commonly, catalytic converters are made up of a ceramic-like or metal honeycombed
monolith substrate that contains metal catalysts. The coated substrate is enclosed
by a mat that can expand once subjected to heat. As it expands, it locks away
and separate the substrate enclosed in a stainless steel shell mounted into the
engine exhaust system. Once exhaust gases pass into the catalysts, a chemical
reaction happens which transforms the pollutants into harmless gases. A catalytic
converter however is not the sole solution for dangerous emissions and exhausts
that can lead to other negative effects on the environment. Using of unleaded
fuel can also help a lot. For much better outcomes, a converter must become a
standard part the car's engine to ensure constant conversion of harmful exhausts
to harm-free gases.
