Chevy Pickup Parts and Pick Up Truck Accessories: History and Innovations
Production of Chevy Pickup trucks started on 1918 which marked the making of the first Chevy Pickup parts. The
first pickup named Chevrolet 490 Light Delivery chassis cowl. Its chassis is made
up of painted metal components. At that time it was sold for $595 with a rated
payload capacity of 1,000lbs. It generated impressive profits which resulted to
a 54.5 percent Chevrolet share on the total GM stocks. The next pickup truck produced
on the same year is the one-ton Model T "Ton Truck" with a payload capacity rating
of 2,000lbs and sold for $1245 on retail basis. Chevrolet designed the chassis
cowl of the pickup. Its body was named Covered Flareboard. On the middle part
is a one-ton stake from the 1925 Ford TT. On the right corner is a 1 1/2 ton chassis
cab with farm body from a 1955 Chevrolet make. During that time, customers are
required to give their own cab and body which are usually constructed from wood.
In 1921, cargo box for Chevrolet 490 Roadster Pickup became available on the
market. The pickup cost $625 without the box and the Light-Delivery without a
cab or body for only $560. With its low-range price and versatility, Roadster
became one of the most-picked trucks in the market. 1927 came with the first Chevrolet
truck equipped with a factory cab, the Superior Model one-ton Utility Express.
Its engine selective three-speed gear shift transmission produced a 21.7 SAE horsepower
which continued until 1928. The wheelbase can accommodate a maximum payload of
1,000 pounds.
The second generation of Chevy trucks came out in 1929-1936. Chevy pickup parts
produced for this generation included the first overhead valve six-cylinder engine
in 1929. It elicited good response from other competing brands like Ford and Dodge.
Ford produced the flat head V-8 in 1932 and Dodge with a flat head six in 1933.
The introduction of the OHV six-cylinder engine made a good remark in the industry.
The OHV has the capacity to produce bigger amount of power and torque compared
with the past Chevrolet pickup truck models. Stand-out features of the new six
included overhead valves, cast-iron pistons, an efficient cooling system and a
non pressurized engine lubrication system. OHV models with 107-inch wheelbase
Light Delivery was rated for a maximum payload of 1,000 pounds. For only $400
rear fenders and a spare rim can be added as accessories. With the OHV, Chevy
trucks attained its maximum performance and power.
